Know anybody who is expecting a baby or nursing? My home sewn nursing coverup is a featured giveaway on Praise Handmade - I SWEAR by this thing! I've been able to nurse my baby for 12 1/2 months now because I feel comfortable enough to nurse anywhere with my coverup!
(Yes, those are elephants) So I recently decided that making homemade soap sounded like a lot of fun, and have made two batches so far. The first batch, a coffee soap, and the second batch, an herbal tea soap. LOTS of fun. I got braver with the second batch and instead of making bars, I used some silicone molds and rolled the rest of the "dough" into balls! I thought it would be fun to felt the balls, so here it is, a felted soap ball! I think next time, I will use colors that don't make it look like it came out of a cat! Lol. Enjoy, and look for some of these soaps to appear on Etsy in the next week or two :)

Tada! I amputated the bottom part of a onesie she had outgrown and added a coordinating skirt from denim I had lying around in my fabric stash. (It was actually set in the pile of "to become memory boads") I'm going to take the former bottom part of the onesie and add elastic to become bloomers, and maybe add some ruffles to the butt. I didn't hem the bottom of the skirt part, instead I just sewed slighted away from the edge so the denim will fray for a "cut-offs" look. Also, I left the skirt part a bit longer, because I figure she'll probably wear this more in the summer time, and she seems to be on the taller side. Check out the actual tutorial here: http://mammatortilla.blogspot.com/2010/01/onesie-to-dress-guest-tutorial-from.html
And the blog that I found the link to the tutorial on: http://sewing.craftgossip.com/ Craft Gossip has new turtorials on sewing fun things and upcycling every day! Make sure you have lots of free time before you check out that site, you're likely to get sucked in!
And here she is a day later, rockin out in her new dress to the only thing she likes to watch on tv: Santana

So I got really motivated today and made her birthday dress, nearly 3 weeks before her birthday! I can't wait to try it on her in the morning (it better fit!). I tried it on Curious George to just see how it looked with something in it, but he's nowhere close to accurate in terms of similar size. I ran out of pink thread and ended up using all of the rest of the white too, along with most of the lavender and some of the peach >.< We were all kind of sicky this weekend so we decided staying home was a better idea than going out. Grumpy goes back to school tomorrow, and while I've enjoyed the break and not having to drop him off and pick him up, it'll be nice to have something for him to do every day! I can go get more pink thread to finish the zipper tomorrow while he's in school :) I still may decide to put buttons on the back instead of a zipper... But I'll at least get to try it on Loafie first! Believe it or not, the white parts actually have tiny pink polka dots on them! There is also a teeny tiny white design on the pink parts as well.
Happy New Year! 2010 already. We went and had an enjoyable evening with some friends last night and returned home by about 11 this morning. They have an 18 mo old and other friends with small kids, so it was fun to be around other people who have kids for once.
Here is a picture of some of the fabrics I'll be using for upcoming sewing projects. Check out our Etsy shop in the next few days/weeks to see!
